Subtract 2-, 3-, or 4-digit numbers where each top digit is at least as large as the digit below it, so nothing needs to be borrowed.

86 − 42 = 44

Ones: 6 − 2 = 4. Tens: 8 − 4 = 4.

Tip: Subtract the ones first, then the tens, then the hundreds.
