Worked example
Write 8/12 in lowest terms. Answer: 2/3
The greatest common factor of 8 and 12 is 4: 8 ÷ 4 = 2 and 12 ÷ 4 = 3.
Tip: If you are not sure of the greatest common factor, divide by 2 or 3 repeatedly until you cannot go further.
